Unemployment Insurance Extensions
How to Apply for Federal Benefits
If you are still unemployed after exhausting your regular Missouri Unemployment Insurance claim, call a Regional Claims Center to file for federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) benefits.
If you qualify, you will receive EUC Tier 1 benefits. Tier 1 benefits may provide up to 10.8 weeks of benefits while you continue to search for employment. If you exhaust Tier 1 benefits, are still unemployed, and you meet all of the eligibility requirements, you will automatically be moved to Tier 2 benefits. Tier 2 benefits may provide up to 10.8 weeks of benefits, giving you a total of 21.6 additional weeks after regular state benefits.
EUC Eligibility Requirements
- You must be registered for employment services with the state agency within the state you reside.
- You must seek work which matches your skills, abilities, and the location where you are seeking work.
- You must keep a written record of your work search.
- You must provide your Work Search Record upon request.
- You may be scheduled to report in-person to a Career Center for a reemployment and eligibility assessment. You will be reminded two weeks prior to your appointment after you have completed your weekly request for payment, either online or by phone.
EUC Tier 2 benefits availability are dependent on the state’s three-month unemployment rate. If the three-month unemployment rate drops below six percent, Tier 2 benefits will no longer be available.
The EUC program ends Dec. 28, 2013. No payments can be paid out for any weeks ending after this date, even if there is a balance on the claim.
Overview
EUC
The Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) program is a federally funded program enacted by the U.S. Congress. Only the U.S. Congress can enact legislation to create further extensions. If another extension occurs after you exhaust your benefits, the DES will notify you. Please keep the agency informed of your current address.
You may be eligible for EUC if you exhaust your regular Missouri unemployment claim. If you have exhausted regular benefits, call your Regional Claims Center to file the initial EUC claim. If approved, you may be enrolled in an intensive reemployment program, "It's All About YOU." For more information about this required program, visit jobs.mo.gov/you.
When you call to file your EUC Tier 1 claim, take option 5 and be prepared to provide the following information:
- Your current address and phone number
- Your last employer since you last claimed benefits. This includes part-time or temporary employment. Be prepared to provide employer’s name, address, and last day worked
- If you worked out of state in the last 18 months, be prepared to provide employer names, addresses, and dates of employment
- Whether you filed for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits against another state since you last claimed Missouri benefits
- Whether you changed bank accounts, if you use the direct deposit method of payment
