New Rail Cars creates New Jobs
>>GOVERNOR JAY NIXON: Building a future right here in the heartland is what we have always lived to do, what we have competed to do and what we’re going to continue to do. And I’ll have to tell you, it’s great to be back in my hometown again. We have been committed in this state since the first day I became your Governor, which is 1,025 days ago, to work every day to create jobs, to make things in the heartland.
>>BOB TURNER: And our company will spend 3.3 billion dollars this year on investment just in one year on this country. The AutoFlex car, which we’re here to celebrate today, we believe really is going to remake the way Americans get their vehicles. As most of you know, vehicles are made at an assembly plant. They go on a rail car on their way to the dealer. We’re on track to hire about 4,500 people this year and most of that to replace folks who are retiring. And we’re looking forward to hiring that same number each and every year into the future. These are going to be built right here and you’re on track to build 100 of them yet this year.
>>GOVERNOR JAY NIXON: Our work and innovation is who we are, who you are, and who is the strength of this country. Exactly what you all did here, not standing still, not waiting for someone else to build this car, not waiting for someone else to do this work, but roll up your sleeves and doing it yourself. As I say a lot in a lot of speeches, we gotta put the P back in GEP. We’ve got to make things. We’ve got to have products. And everybody here is doing their part to do that, to help this country. Not just this town, not just this state, but this country. Have made in America, made in Missouri mean something again. Cause I know we get up earlier, we stay later and we compete.
