Imposter Claims to Work for the Labor Department
Jefferson City, Mo—The Missouri Labor Department’s Division of Employment Security (DES) would like to warn Missouri employers about an imposter, claiming to work for the DES, seeking confidential information about employees. One victim has been reported at this time.
“We have contacted the law enforcement and we are doing everything in our power to track this individual and to stop this activity,” says Department Director Larry Rebman.
The imposter goes by the name of “Kevin Adams”; however, other aliases may exist. The victim received an e-mail from Kevin Adams, posing to be a “Senior Benefit Representative” for the DES, from the address “modiveploy@worker.com”. The imposter asked for confidential information about the victim’s employees and for the victim to contact him at an “866” phone number.
The position the imposter claims to have at the DES does not exist. In addition, the Division does not have a dedicated toll-free number for employers. Furthermore, the official e-mail address for department staff ends in “@labor.mo.gov”.
If contacted by this individual, report it to the DES by calling 573-751-3328. Do not release confidential employee information.
