Les Thomas, the manager for the Department’s mine and cave safety program, notes how his unit is responsible for inspecting all show-caves in Missouri as well as providing FREE training to miners in the state. In addition, Les explains how the state is helping put together the longest-running underground mining competition in the state scheduled to take place September 20-23rd, 2010. Miners come from all over the country to test their knowledge, learn new safety techniques, and compete against each other to become the regional underground mining champions.
